15/08/05. We took part in a cobweb-away blowing exercise last week. i e. a pre season friendly at Kidsgrove, all three of Fenton's league teams were represented and with the cup captain also playing all four captains for next year were present.
We were soon up against it as boards 4+5 were lost and despite a win on board 3 the top two boards could only draw ensuring a 3-2 win for the home side.
we will have a chance to gain some revenge when we host Kidsgrove at our place for another friendly on the 22nd August.

24/04/05. - With the season now over the club now turns its attention to its own inhouse tournaments. This year's main competition will be a Swiss tournament a format widely used in chess congresses, Robert Milner (General Secretary NSDCA) has kindly offered to work out the pairings. 22/04/05. Fenton B travel to Cheddleton & Leek Chess Club to play their last match of the season against Leek St Edward's C who sit mid-table, a good draw on board 1 and a win on 3 for the Captain ends a tough year for the B team, the match ended - Leek St Edward's C 2½ - 1½ Fenton B.

19/04/05. - The A team travel to Holmes Chapel to play their last game of the season against HC Rooks, with what looked on paper as the weakest side we had put out all season, but we still managed a win on board 1 and a good draw on board 4 with the final result ending.-HC Rooks 3½-1½ Fenton A. The final second division table shows the A team second from bottom on 8 points.

18/04/05. The Blind SC send a 3 man team to The New Penny to play our B team, with wins on boards 1 and 2 and a default on 4 the score ended - Fenton B 3 - 1 Blind SC.

11/04/05. Fenton B play host to Leek St Edward's B and end up on the wrong end of a 4-0 whitewash, the match ended -

04/04/05. The Blind SC continue to have problems only managing to send a 2 man team to play our B team. Mark Whitby Division 7B Captain for Birmingham University Chess Club made his debut for our club, the match ended -

17/01/05.Both teams were in action tonight at The New Penny against very strong teams, the A team finished first with a memorable draw over the top team in division 2, Richard Tunstall played up from the B team and continued his excellent form with a win- Fenton A 2½ - 2½ HC Knights.
Tonight was always going to be a tough challenge for our B team, they faced one of the strongest sides in division 3, the high point was Andy Stott making his debut for the club and fighting out a draw.Fenton B ½ - 3½ Stafford B.

10/01/05.The B team make the short journey to Creda to play their C team, the match looked like ending in a draw but in the end the final result was- Creda C 2½ - 1½ Fenton B.

05/01/05.The B team start the New Year off with a win, Newcastle D team played host with the final result ending- Newcastle D 1 - 3 Fenton B.

Last night Fenton A team played host (fixture reversal) to Broughton Arms one of the strongest teams in division 2, plus it was the last time that Pete Sargeant could play for us on a regular basis due to relocation (for some reason he wont take the day off on match days) a huge asset for many years he will be missed by all at the club, Sadly he couldn't leave on a high with a win but at least the team managed a draw with the score ending -

09/11/04.Fenton Chess Club will award a trophy to the clubs player of the year, decided by performance over the season. Geoff Yates(100 BCF) is in top spot for his win against John Day(124 BCF) Player of the Year table.

09/11/04. Round 1 of the Under135 cup was played last night, the match ended in defeat for Fenton, outgraded on almost every board it was always going to be tough. Fenton 1½-3½ Newcastle.

03/11/04. Fenton A play Newcastle C away and despite losing 1-4 all players can be pleased with their performances as all but the lowest board were playing against higher graded players. The highpoint of the evening was Geoff Yates beating a much stronger player on board 3. Newcastle C 4-1 Fenton A

01/11/04.Fenton B gain their first point of the season at home against Kidsgrove B, with the final score-

26/10/04. Fenton A travel to Creda for their third match of the Season hoping to at least pick up a point, outgraded on every board it was always going to be tough, the match ended Creda A 4½-½Fenton A

21/10/04. Round 1 of the 8 board cup was played last night, the match ended in victory for Fenton sending us through to the semi final stage. Kidsgrove 1½-6½ Fenton.

11/10/04. Both Teams in action and both outgraded on almost every board, the A team manage to get 3 draws on boards 2, 3 and 5 making the final result- Fenton A 1½-3½ HC Rooks.

The B team were totally outgraded on every board with Creda sending out players rated 136 ,103, 91 and 82 to face a much weaker team made up of players rated 88, 82, U and 47, the highlight was R Tunstall drawing against S Gregory making the final result- Creda B 3½-½ Fenton B.

05/10/04.The A teams Season starts with a defeat away to Holmes Chapel Knights, the only plus was the successful debut of Neil Owen on board 1 Play through game HC Knights 3½-1½ Fenton A.

04/10/04.The first game of the season for our B team ends in defeat against Creda C. Fenton B 1-3 Creda C.

27/09/04.The first game of the season for Fenton ended with us out for the count, after drawing 2½-2½ against creda in round 1 of the U110 cup, a board count was needed to decide the result.

22/09/04.Leek St Eds D have joined division 3 forcing a few changes to the fixtures for the B team.

20/09/04. Tonight's match ended in defeat for the home side with Creda winning 6-2. The new Penny Landlord donated and presented the Cup to the winning Captain.

20/09/04. The planned friendly against Creda takes place tonight at the New Penny, Creda will be the first club to play us at our new venue. To make it more interesting both sides will be playing for a cup.

02/06/04.The friendly against Newcastle took place tonight, unfortunately only 6 players from Foley were able to make it for the 8 board clash, so it was decided that a 7 board match with 1 player from Newcastle representing Foley on the night, the games provided useful experience for the newest members of both clubs. The least said about the final score the better. A general invite from Newcastle has been given to Foley players to participate in there ½-hour tournament to be played over the next three weeks.

01/06/04.The Foley Arms, venue for Foley Chess Club, has closed its doors leaving the club with a nervous wait to discover if they will become homeless, hopefully new management will be found and the club can continue playing there, if not a new venue will have to be found.

29/03/04. The season ends for Foley tonight capping off one of there best years ever, reaching a final (U110 cup) and a semi final (Withnall cup), plus Foley A winning division 3.

29/03/04. Foley play Cheddleton at home (held at Creda) in the final of the U110 cup and lose ½-4½,Foley now look forward to playing there Inhouse tournaments throughout the closed season.

24/03/04. Foley B play The Blind SC away and win 2½-1½ avoiding the wooden spoon on the very last game of there season.

22/03/04. Foley play Cheddleton away (held at the Foley Arms)in the semi final of the Withnall cup and lose 1-4.

15/03/04. Foley B play Kidsgrove B at home and lose ½-3½, With only one game left to play against the Blind SC. Two points could lift them off the bottom if Newcastle lose or draw there last two games.

10/03/04. Foley A play Kidsgrove A away and win 3½-½. With all there fixtures now completed and there nearest title rivals unable to make up the points difference the team wins promotion to the 2nd division.

03/03/04. Foley B play Kidsgrove A away and lose 1½-2½.

01/03/04. Foley B play Creda C at home (Creda due to change of Licensee) and lose ½-3½.

01/03/04. Foley A play Kidsgrove B at home (Creda due to change of Licensee) and draw 2-2, keeping them at the top of the division with only one game left to play.

25/02/04. Foley A play Blind SC away and win 3-1, sending them back to the top of the division with only two games left to play..

11/02/04. Foley A play Newcastle away winning 3½-½, at the moment it looks like a three horse race to top the division between Foley A, Kidsgrove B and Stafford.

09/02/04. County team KO tournament, section Withnall Round 1. U100-Foley v Stafford, Foley win 3-2, board 5 was defaulted due to Stafford being a player short. The hero of the night was R Tunstall who pulled back from a piece down to win taking us into the next round.

04/02/04. A top of the table clash between Kidsgrove B (home) and Foley A. Kidsgrove won 2½-1½ knocking Foley A off top spot for now.

03/02/04. Foley B make the long journey to Stafford and get put firmly in there place losing 4-0.

26/01/04.Foley play Creda in the Semi final of the U110 Cup and win 4-1, players in board order were G Yates, J Amison, R Tunstall, P Tideswell and R Hammersley. Wins on boards 1, 4 and 5, draws on 2 and 3. Foley now look forward to the first Final in the Clubs history against Stafford or Cheddleton.

18/01/04.Foley A Team play Blind SC at home and win 4-0, a great result for the team.

12/01/04.Foley B Team played Kidsgrove A at home and draw 2-2, leaving Foley B sharing bottom of the table with Newcastle D.

05/01/04. Foley A Team play Stafford at home and win 2½-1½. A very close match with three draws and a win on board 4 by R Hammersley.

17/12/03. Foley B played Kidsgrove B Team away and lost 1½ - 2½, with 3 draws and one defeat the games were very close.

15/12/03. Foley A Team played Kidsgrove A at home and win 3½-½, leaving Foley A still unbeaten.

01/12/03. Foley B Team played Foley A at home and lose 3-1, leaving Foley A top of the league on maximum points.

06/11/03. Tonight's third division match between Foley A and Blind SC was cancelled due to illness, however the other match between Newcastle D and Foley B ended in a draw giving Foley B there first point of the season.

20/10/03. Round 1 of the U110 Cup Match. Foley play Newcastle and win 4-1, they now play Creda in the Semi-Final.

15/10/03. Foley A Team play Stafford away and win 2½-1½. A Team players were P Sargeant, G Yates,J Amison and C Mustafa.

07/10/03. The season starts for Foley Chess Club with Foley A Team playing against Foley B Team, the match ended with the A Team winning 3 games all on boards 1,2 and 3 and a draw on board 4.

22/9/03. P Sargeant beat P Tideswell to win the final of the INHOUSE SUMMER TOURNAMENT.

15/9/03. P Sargeant v J Amison ( FINAL of the INHOUSE K.O. TOURNAMENT) time limit 30 mins each ended in another draw, so a third match was played with J Amison as white ending with P Sargeant as the winner, the INHOUSE K.O. TOURNAMENT is now over leaving P Sargeant as the winner.

8/9/03. J Amison and P Sargeant play the FINAL of the INHOUSE K.O. TOURNAMENT. The result was a draw, a second match will now take place with a time limit of 30 mins each.(view game)

8/9/03. R Hammersley beat P Tideswell in a playoff match to finish third in the INHOUSE K.O. TOURNAMENTview game.

P Tideswell beat R Hammersley in the semi final of the INHOUSE SUMMER TOURNAMENT. He will now play P Sargeant in the Final.
